For the certification of life certificates you can visit us on any working day between 9.15-9.30am OR 1.30-1.45pm.

The Power of Attorney/Proxy will not be drafted by this office for you. You will have to prepare it by yourself/ by your lawyer, as per your requirement.
Witnesses of your signature on the Power of Attorney/ Proxy, or their nationality is NOT a requirement of this Office. If required as per the purpose of the Power of Attorney / Proxy, you are kindly requested to bring your own witnesses, at the time of the appointment.
However, the witnesses that accompany you have to prove their identity by providing a valid identification documents at the time of signing the document. (Ex: Valid Passport)

Sri Lankan birth, marriage and death certificates translated abroad

Only the original documents issued by Institutions of the Government of Sri Lanka in Sinhala, Tamil or English will be accepted for attestation. Photocopies, certified copies, translations damaged or decayed documents NOT accepted.
If the applicant is unable to submit the documents in person, a close relative could do it on behalf of the applicant with a letter of authorization and a certified copy of the applicant’s passport. The authorized person should present a valid document for proof of identification. For the attestation of certificates of applicants under eighteen (18) years of age, this authorization letter should be signed by the legitimate guardian of the child concerned if he/she is unable to visit this office in person.
If the original document/s are sent via post, the applicant should send a consent letter authorizing this office to attest the document on behalf of him/her, along with a copy of his/her passport.
The attestation of this office is valid only for one year.

If you wish to attest a document issued by a Australian Government authority (ex: Australian Birth Certificate/ Marriage Certificate / Death Certificate, Educational Certificate etc.) through this office, please:
If you wish to certify a copy of your Australian passport, please first get it certified by the APO and then submit to this office.
Appointments are not required to sign life certificates and the service is provided free of charge. You can visit us on any working day between 9.15-9.30am OR 1.30-1.45pm to obtain this service.
If you are unable to visit this office in person due to health concerns, a letter signed by a registered doctor with official stamp should be submitted confirming you are known to him/her and the applicant has signed in the presence of the doctor.
All pensioners residing abroad should furnish their life certificates every year to the Department of Pensions, Sri Lanka. You can submit the certificate between 01 December of the previous year to 31 March of the ensuring year. If you are living in Victoria, South Australia & Tasmania you can obtain this service from this office.
Pensioners who are unable to visit this office due to aging or sickness should submit their Life Certificates to this office along with a letter obtained from a recognized medical officer.
Life Certificates not certified by this office will be rejected.
Pensioners who possess the citizenship of another country, pensioners who have Sri Lankan dual citizenship and Sri Lankan pensioners going abroad for a period of more than 03 years and whose payments are made by the Head Office, should submit the life certificates directly to the Department of Pensions or through Foreign Missions.
Pensioners going abroad on exigency of the service and whose payments are made by the Divisional Secretariats should submit their Life Certificates obtained through Foreign Missions, to the Divisional Secretariats.
Pensioners residing abroad are not allowed to transfer their pension to any other person, to grant power of attorney or to deposit in the name of another account holder.

Certification of documents for opening bank accounts in Sri Lanka for the payment of pension OR transfer money from the special bank account; This service is also provided free of charge. If you submit the document/s at the counter of this office, document will be returned to you on the same day after attestation/ certification.
Translations will take five (05) working days. You can inform the method of receipt of the translation at the submission of the documents.
If you submit the documents for attestation through electronic-document attestation system of Foreign Ministry, Sri Lanka, you will be notified via e-mail once the document is ready to collect.
You do not need to obtain a prior appointment for collection of your certificate. You can collect your certificate by visiting the Consulate General between 9.15-9.30 am OR 1.30 -1.45 pm on any working day. Before visiting us, please check our website for any public holiday closures.
